Today ‘Kendo’ a Japanese martial art, part of the Budō family, represents the way of the samurai, letting people learn about the philosophy and bases behind this traditional martial art; Kendo is practiced all along the world, with a huge impact in society making it a world-wide known phenomena conquering people’s hearts, with its philosophy based on love and self-improvement.Ecuadorean kendo was founded by Sensei (teacher) Keiji Kosakai on 24th July 2000. Since then, many people were interested in learning, thanks to Sensei Fernando Benavides (actual president of the Ecuadorean Association of Kendo). The Sensei’s passion for Kendo combined with his contagious attitude has meant the martial art has spread, allowing his students to strive for excellence whilst having fun. The first time I started practicing kendo, I felt very clumsy and thought that I would never be good at it. However, all the students and teachers started helping me, at that moment I knew that I had made lifelong friends who would help me without a doubt. This is the feeling of unity that lets us all grow spiritually whilst starting to think about others without any form of discrimination.

Nowadays, Kendo in Ecuador has more than 150 registered students in all “dojos” (training centers) in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca. You can easily access and be part of the kendo family if you commit yourself to change, ganbarimashou! For more information
